Not sure commercial instincts don't serve the action thriller well, I think it stands to reason, but I should confess I still haven't been able to bring myself to look at Top Gun, and I'm not that sure about Man on Fire either. What you call efficiency, clarity, and sense of timing, I call "never advanced beyond making commercials". Or maybe I'm just hateful because Top Gun is so vile.
